Donald Brown, Philip R. Allen Professor of Economics and Professor of Mathematics, has served on the faculty at Yale University since 1969. During that time he spent seven years on the faculty at Stanford in the Department of Economics. His academic training is in physics and mathematics and, after receiving his Ph.D. in mathematics in 1969, was offered post-doc in mathematical economics at Princeton and Yale. For most of his career at Yale, he has been a member of the Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics, as well as a member of the Economic Growth Center. He currently holds joint appointments in the Yale Department of Mathematics and the Yale School of Management. Professor Brown has been the principal advisor for over twenty Ph.D. students in economics, political science, and operations research at Yale and Stanford and served as the chair of the economics department at Yale and as a member of the faculty senate at Stanford. Brown’s scholarship during his career at Yale is summarized by his appointment as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association and his election to the American Academy of Sciences.
