Facilities and Offices
The center is housed at 149 Elm Street, facing the New Haven Green, in an elegantly restored eighteenth-century building. Physically it consists of two floors of offices, including twelve offices for faculty use, a computer workshop, a spacious library/meeting room, and a seminar room, in which fellows often teach undergraduate classes.
Offices are assigned by the directors in consultation with the center’s advisory board, initially for a term of three years, with the possibility of renewal after the first two years; renewal is based on participation in the activities of the center and regular use of the office. Emeriti who are interested in an office at the center should send an email to emeritus@yale.edu or call 203-432-8227.
The center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the academic year and at other times for special functions. It is closed on university holidays and recess days and operates on a reduced schedule during July and August.
