John Bargh

John Bargh is the Susan Nolen-Hoeksema Professor of Psychology and director of the ACME lab. His research over the past four decades has focused on unconscious influences in everyday life, including perceptions and judgments of others (e.g., stereotyping), unconscious motivational mechanisms, and social behavior. He is a past Guggenheim Fellow, was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2011, and has received Distinguished Career awards from the American Psychological Association, the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, and the Society for Experimental Social Psychology. Bargh received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois in 1977 and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1981. He was on the faculty of NYU for twenty-two years before moving to Yale in 2003.  He is the author of Before You Know It (2017) and over 200 scholarly publications.
