John Hughes

John Hughes received his undergraduate and M.D. degrees from the University of North Carolina, completed residency training in internal medicine at Ohio State University and at Yale, and then completed a fellowship in the Clinical Scholars Program at Yale. He created and, for many years, ran the “Professional Responsibility” course for first-year medical students, which addresses topics in medical ethics, law, and medicine, as well as the organization and financing of the health care system. He received several awards from medical students and residents for his excellence in teaching and is currently a member of the Ethics Committee at Yale-New Haven Hospital and an associate director of the Program for Biomedical Ethics at Yale.
