Alan Kazdin, Sterling Professor of Psychology and Professor of Child Psychiatry, recently announced two new resources that are available for parents and professionals which are designed to help with parenting and childrearing of both children and adolescents. The first resource is a free, online course entitled Everyday Parenting: The ABCs of Child Rearing. Produced by Yale University and Coursera, the course provides concrete tools to help parents with the normal challenges of childrearing. In it, Professor Kazdin provides over twenty sessions on many different techniques and how they can be used in the home and at school. In addition, Professor Kazdin recently launched a new website designed to help with parenting. Providing articles, videos, and more to serve as a resource on childrearing topics, the site includes sections for parents and professionals and multiple articles on topics that emerge in parenting.
Professor Kazdin is the Director of the Yale Parenting Center and was the 2008 President of the American Psychological Association. He is the author of over 750 articles and 50 books for professional audiences on topics of parenting and child rearing, child psychotherapy, cognitive and behavioral treatments, and interpersonal violence. His numerous awards include the National Institute of Mental Health’s MERIT Award, the American Psychological Association’s Lifetime Contribution Award to Psychology, and the American Board of Professional Psychology’s Distinguished Service Award to the Profession of Psychology. As an expert in parenting, he is featured frequently on national media and has appeared on The Dr. Phil Show, ABC News, NBC News, BBC, PBS, and NPR.
