Koerner Center Releases Documentary

February 5, 2025

The Yale Henry Koerner Center is delighted to announce the release of a documentary on the Center, which surveys its history and programming since its inception. Karyl Evans, a six-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, directed and produced the film, conducting twenty-six interviews, including a conversation with Joseph Leo Koerner, who founded the Center with Lisbet Rausing through a generous donation in 2002. Former Yale President Richard Levin, who helped establish the Center, was also interviewed, as well as Vice Provost Emily Bakemeier and senior advisor at the university Penelope Laurans, who staffed the faculty committee that set forth the vision and programming for the Center that is enjoyed today. Together, these four individuals provide a framework for a series of commentaries by Koerner Fellows themselves, revealing how the Koerner Center operates and the myriad ways it exists for the benefit of Yale emeriti.

The film premiere was held on February 4, 2025, at Yale’s Humanities Quadrangle and included a discussion with the film’s director. To watch the film, click here.
